IEL developed the Individualized Career Development Plan (ICDP) for the Right Turn Career-Focused Transition Initaitve. It is based on IEL's work and experiences with the Individualized Mentoring Plan (see below) and Indvidualized Learning Plans. The ICDP helps young people through three phases: self-exploration, career exploration, and career planning and management.

The Juvenile Justice Guideposts highlight specific experiences, supports, and services that are relevant to improving transition outcomes for youth with and without disabilities involved or at risk of becoming involved in the juvenile justice system within the framework of the Guideposts for Success. The five Guidepost areas of focus are School-based preparatory experiences, Career preparation and work-based learning experiences, Youth development and leadership, Connecting activities (support and community services), and Family involvement and supports.

An individualized learning plan is both a document and a process that students use – with support from school counselors, teachers, and parents – to define their career goals and post-secondary plans in order to inform the student’s decisions about their courses and activities throughout high school. Many states have adopted policies that require all middle and/or high school students to develop and maintain an individualized learning plan in order to make schools more personalized and improve student outcomes. This factsheet also contains information about the three career-development phases incorporated in Right Turn.

This guide is designed for schools, educators, and other professionals who assist youth with college and career readiness and transition planning. This guide was developed in response to feedback from schools indicating a need for curriculum and implementation guidelines to support whole-school buy-in for implementing individualized learning plans (ILPs). A key goal of the guide is to help schools develop a bridge between college and career readiness efforts through the use of ILPs and help youth achieve prosperous and productive lives. The career development activities and resources in this guide are also useful for youth service professionals in the workforce development system.

The Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program is IEL's career-focused mentoring transition model. Currently operated in 10 states and the District of Columbia, 12 different organizations have served over 1500 youth since fall 2009. RAMP is a high-tech, career-focused mentoring program for youth involved with or at risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. The RAMP model uses a combination of group, peer, and individualized mentoring to promote the successful transition of all youth, including those with disabilities, to employment, continued learning opportunities, and independent living.

by IEL's Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program

The RAMP™ IMP is based on the IEL-led National Consortium for Leadership and Disability for Youth's "Plotting the Course for Success: An Individualized Mentoring Plan for Youth with Disabilities." This four-page RAMP™ IMP helps youth and mentors identify youth strengths and areas for growth and provides structure for the youth and mentor to work on setting and achieving short- and long-term goals. The IMP is designed using elements of Universal Design for Learning and is aligned with the commonly accepted five areas of youth development outlined by the Forum for Youth Investment: Learning, Working, Connecting, Thriving, and Leading.
